Hydroxyapatite HAp

Hydroxylapatite is a biocompatible mineral that occurs naturally in our bodies – in fact, tooth surfaces are composed of around 97% of this mineral.

Its history is fascinating: in the 1970s, hydroxylapatite was investigated as part of NASA space research. Later, Japanese company Sangi Co. Ltd. brought the first commercial toothpaste containing hydroxylapatite to market. Since then, the ingredient has enjoyed growing popularity as a natural alternative.

Hydroxylapatite can support the natural remineralisation of tooth enamel and contributes to a smoother tooth surface and a naturally brighter appearance.

Multifunctional minerals: Calcium Carbonate and Hydrated Silica

These minerals take on the mechanical cleaning. Their fine particle structure removes plaque and superficial discolouration. In our Sensitive variants Orange-Mandarine and Soothing Mint, high-quality, ultra-fine silica (Hydrated Silica) ensures particularly gentle cleaning with a low abrasion value. Our Whitening variant Crisp Mint relies on calcium carbonate with somewhat higher cleaning performance. All formulations are geared towards controlled, tooth-friendly cleaning.

We use high-quality, ultra-fine Hydrated Silica manufactured in Great Britain, a material that is widely found in nature. Our calcium carbonate comes from a quarry in France and is processed whilst adhering to strict purity standards.

Fruit enzymes: Bromelain & Papain

Bromelain is extracted from the stem, leaves and skin of the pineapple, whilst papain is extracted from the skin and seeds of the papaya. These plant-based enzymes can break down proteins.

Their unique combination supports the enzymatic removal of external (extrinsic) discolouration – such as from coffee, tea or red wine – for a naturally brighter, smooth and clean oral sensation.

Xylitol

Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol originally obtained from plant fibres such as wood. In our tooth powder it provides a pleasant, slightly sweet feeling in the mouth, supports a balanced oral environment and helps to neutralise acids in the mouth.

Lactobacillus plantarum HEAL19 is one of the first probiotics specially optimised for oral care. It supports a healthy balance of the oral flora and contributes to a pleasant feeling in the mouth.

Organic peppermint oil & menthol crystals

This refreshing combination provides a clear taste and long-lasting fresh breath. Crystalline menthol is created by cooling high-purity peppermint oil to minus 40 °C. The menthol comes from the natural oil of the Mentha piperita plant and delivers the clear, characteristic peppermint taste.

Organic orange and mandarin essential oil

These essential oils give the tooth powder a pleasant, fruity taste and provide a fresh feeling in the mouth.

Coconut activated charcoal

Coconut activated charcoal is obtained from coconut shells and activated through a special process – this creates its characteristic porous structure. In our Crisp Mint variety it is included as a natural ingredient and gives the powder its characteristic dark look.

Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate

Also known as “baby foam”, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate is one of the mildest surfactants there is. It is obtained from coconut oil, is 100% palm-oil-free and very readily biodegradable.

Hydroxyapatite or fluoride – how do I decide?

We rely on hydroxyapatite because it's a mineral native to the body – what your tooth enamel is already made of. We've presented what the research on hydroxyapatite and fluoride says neutrally; the decision is yours.

How do I use tooth powder correctly?

Sprinkle a small amount of powder onto the brush rather than dipping the wet brush into the jar – that keeps the powder dry. Then brush as usual for about two minutes.

Is tooth powder also suitable for children?

Our Orange-Mandarin Sensitive is mild and suitable for children from the age of 3 – ideally under supervision and with a pea-sized amount.

Can I take tooth powder when travelling?

Yes – compact, leak-proof and with no liquid restrictions in hand luggage.

How long does a refill last?

Depending on how often you use it, a 50 g refill lasts about 2 months and a 100 g refill about 4 months.

Is Dentafari vegan?

Yes, all varieties are vegan.
