For our tooth powder we rely on glass. Why? Glass is 100% recyclable, again and again and without any loss of quality: old glass is melted down into new glass – a cycle that repeats as often as you like. Our amber glass jar is the long-lasting home for your powder – buy once, refill again and again. And if a jar does end up in the waste glass, simply put it in the right container: in Germany around 85% of waste glass is recycled this way.
Our tooth powder refills are made of mono-plastic. Mono-plastic
means the packaging consists of just one type of plastic – in our
case LDPE (low-density polyethylene). The big advantage: mono-materials can
be recycled much better than composites made of different layers
and plastics. Because different plastics have
different properties, such as melting points, which makes recycling
considerably harder or even impossible.
The answer lies in the product itself: tooth powder is extremely sensitive to moisture and must be stored dry and airtight. Paper is renewable, but doesn't offer sufficient protection. Glass is heavy and energy-intensive to produce. In this blog post you'll find out more about our refills.
The carbon footprint of shipping packaging can be larger than buying in a store. To reduce this, we use recyclable cardboard packaging with paper tape and plastic-free filling material. Last year we switched from our paper filling material to compostable packaging chips made from plant starch. Not only are they the best option for the planet, they provide reliable protection for our products.
We also make sure that the packaging is the right size (some companies send their products in a box of the same size to save costs) and that it is light yet strong enough to protect our products.
Our production is supplied with solar power. This enables us to save CO2 and increase the sustainability of our company.
